Side Control
Elbow Escape
Elbow Escape from Side Control
Core Concept
Use your near-side frame to create space, shrimp your hips, and recover guard before crossface control is secured. This escape relies on timing and proper frame placement rather than strength.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1
Establish Frame
Place your near-side forearm against opponent's neck/shoulder. Keep elbow tight to your ribs.
2
Hip Escape (Shrimp)
Bridge slightly and shrimp your hips away from opponent. Create space between your hip and their chest.
3
Recover Guard
Insert your far-side knee into the space created. Continue shrimping until you establish guard.
Key Points
• Best used when opponent commits chest-to-chest pressure
• Execute before crossface control is secured
• Timing is more important than strength
• Keep your frame strong throughout the movement
